This is my very first post on the aimnet forums, so I still have my "L" plates on when it comes to posting. By way of introduction, I am the Acting General Manager for AIM in the ACT.

On the subject of "L" plates, I read an interesting article recently about the importance of learning to leaders, titled "The Leader's Lifelong Learner's Permit" which included a great quote from John F Kennedy, written but never spoken by JFK - he was due to present it on the day he was assassinated.

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."

It can be found on Forbes.com - here (http://www.forbes.com/2009/06/01/lifelong-learning-executive-leadership-managing-edge.html).

The essence of the article is that "true" leaders learn constantly, continuously and cyclically. They continue to learn and grow throughout their life and career. What interests me most about this is that the author seems to suggest that an individual's personality is the major driver influencing successful leadership. In other words, leaders are born, not made.

I'd be interested in everyone's ideas on this and have posted a poll to get your opinion. As this is my first poll, I've kept it very simple.
