Hi Emma
Very interesting, thanks to you all for putting on. Luke et al have turned a social outlet into something inspiring.
I have a question regarding Luke's point ‘outcomes are important’ if anyone can help (forgive me if I missed it last night, long day):
Was he saying that outcomes are important from a branding perspective? If so, I completely agree – it is important to ensure that the ‘product/service delivery’ matches the expectations created by the brand, no matter what your product or market is. Companies/brands that fail to deliver to this level inevitably diminish their brand over time (think numerous national airlines, the major telcos, any US car manufacturer etc etc).
In a different vein, outcomes are important for charities. This is an interesting point I had not considered until Luke's talk last night. In a sense charities promise much, and achieve a ‘sale’ when the ‘consumer’ parts with cash. But in most cases the ‘consumer’ never takes delivery or achieves fulfilment. There is no evidentiary confirmation of what their contribution has achieved, which presumably is why many charities give the donor a pen or some such at the time of contribution. The success of the ‘sponsor a child’ type charities surely has stemmed from the appeal of helping kids, but also the follow up provided through the pictures and letters from the child sponsored.
Thanks!
Craig.
